Norsemen 8th - 10th Century

Commonly refered to as the “Viking Age”, the 8th to tenth century saw an increase in activity in Scandinavia in the north of Europe.  The coasts and riverways of Europe saw an increase in raids and later trade from these mysterious north men. Using a uniquely designed longship, the vikings could traverse open water as well as shallow riverways turning them into the brave explorers we know them as sailing to Canada in the west, North Africa in the south and Constantinople in the east, travelling further than any others in their time.
